A new children’s book festival is coming to Westonbirt Arboretum

One of Gloucestershire’s most popular tourist attractions, Westonbirt, the National Arboretum, has unveiled a new literature festival for young book lovers, taking place this August bank holiday weekend.

Dedicated to stories about nature, animals and the great outdoors, Wild Wonder at Westonbirt is a brand new children’s book festival, featuring three days of entertainment, guest literature and workshops at the arboretum on Sunday 27 to Monday August 29, 2022.

With some of the UK’s most famous children’s authors making star-studded appearances, little bookworms will be able to meet their favorite storytellers and illustrators, as well as take part in a nature book-themed activity programme.

Big names to watch include Battle horse author and national treasure, Michael Morpurgo; Waterstones Children’s Laureate and How to train your dragon Creator, Cressida Cowell; and teenage nature writer and environmental activist, Dara McAnulty.

There will also be appearances from wildlife presenter CBeebies Jess Frenchwho hosts Minibeast Adventure with Jessand novelists MG Leonard, Emma Carroll and Michelle Pavéparticipating in masterclasses, workshops and conferences.

horror stories illustrator, Martin Brown, is part of the list of successful illustrators who organize events at Wild Wonder; while attendees can also expect activity trails, book signings and craft opportunities under the trees.

To top it all, The Gruffalo will be making an actual appearance for story time, with character costume appearances from Little hazelnut hare comforting tale, Guess how much I love youtoo.

Prices vary for each event, which takes place at various locations within Westonbirt Arboretum, but please note that a standard admission cost of £11 applies for adults.

Ticket prices for each event are the same for adults and children, while children up to the age of two can attend for free, provided they are seated on their parent’s or child’s lap. their guardian for the duration of the event.
