Libraries are known for having vast collections of books and for being the community’s gateway to information. In recent years, libraries are known to provide technology support for computers, smartphones, iPads, etc. The Adams County Public Library is your community information hub and we want to make sure you have a positive experience every time you visit our sites. Our mission is to provide enriching, entertaining and educational resources, services and programs to the community and to encourage lifelong learning and a love of books through these resources, services and programs. In addition to books, we offer DVDs, Blu-rays, magazines, books on CDs, and many online resources and services, including Hoopla Digital, Libby, and Kanopy. We hope to inspire everyone who walks through our doors.
John D. Leshy, an avid reader and former patron of the Adams County Public Library, grew up reading books and coming to the Peebles Library. His mother, Dolores Leshy was a volunteer at the library. His task was to order books for the library. The books would be delivered to her house and she and John would read them eagerly for countless hours. This rewarding experience paved the way for Leshy to become a professor emeritus at the University of California at Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. Now he is an author. His fascination with history blossomed and with that blossoming, a book, Our common ground, has been created. Remembering his experience at the Peebles Library, he kindly donated a copy of his book to us. You can enjoy this fascinating book, which depicts the living history of federal public lands, by reserving it at one of our libraries. Simply log in using your library card and PIN to reserve the book and choose your preferred pickup location. You can even use the online catalog to access your account to manage your reservations, payments, personal information and payment history in one place.
In addition to books, we offer free notary services at our West Union branch. Please call before you come to ensure the availability of our notary. Additionally, to make your visit as smooth as possible, please follow these recommendations: bring current photo ID, ensure documents are unsigned prior to your visit, and both parties are present. For more information, please call the West Union branch. If you’re in a DIY mood, you can come to our libraries to take home one of our DIY kits! Each kit contains supplies and instructions for fun and creative crafts, designed for specific age groups, including children, teens and adults. In addition, we offer faxing, copying and printing services. For these services, enter the library or use curbside services for staff assistance.
