Renowned for their expressive use of wood and metal letterforms, Kitching creates visuals for commissions and their own limited edition prints. He co-founded the Experimental Printing Workshop at Watford College of Technology in 1964.
He then became a partner at Omnific Studios where he started letterpress printing. In 1994, Kitching was named Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) and elected a member of Alliance Graphique International (AGI). Clients over the years have included Borough Market, The British Library, Creative Review, D&AD, Dazed & Confused, The Guardian, The National Theatre, Penguin Books, The Times, Royal Mail, Saatchi & Saatchi, Scheufelen Paper, Clarks Shoes , Random House, AOL and the Tate Modern.
The exhibition celebrates the launch of Alan Kitching: A Life in Letterpress the Bookshop Edition, published by Laurence King in March 2017. This beautiful monograph, filled with stunning images of the artist’s process and work, covers over fifty years of his life and career. At the same time, Alan will be present for an exclusive dedication event at the exhibition on April 15, 2017 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
