Albemarle College’s ‘Creatures of Comfort’ art exhibit opens June 24 at Roanoke Island Festival Park

Roanoke Island Festival Park will host the College of the Albemarle (COA) art exhibit, “Creatures of Comfort,” in its traveling exhibit space this summer. This free exhibition is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday from June 24 to September 24, 2022, in the Ticket Sales Gallery.

“Creatures of Comfort” is a representative body of artwork showcasing each student’s individual work as well as a collaborative group installation. The exhibit was created by students in the Associate of Fine Arts program under the direction of Professor Christina Weisner of the COA Dare Campus.

As part of COA’s portfolio and CV class, each student was tasked with displaying their most comfortable artwork, art beyond the course curriculum with freedom of medium, concept and allotted time. While the focus in these individual works is on the artist’s “comfort zone,” the collaborative group installation, by contrast, challenges this notion – forcing everyone out of their place of comfort. The challenge of its comfort, combined with its embrace, harmonizes in this exhibition.
