ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Colorful and lavish prints, cut-out pieces of paper and installations draw viewers in while highlighting the issues of marine bio-invaders. Works by North Carolina-based artist April Flanders are the focus of this exhibit, but Flanders also shares a large-scale installation with prints by 24 other artists from the United States and Canada. Together, these artists address the extent of the aquatic environment, a complex and fragile ecosystem threatened daily by multiple forces.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Flanders is a studio artist who lives and crafts in the mountains of western North Carolina. A passionate naturalist, her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions at museums and galleries nationally and internationally, including Katzen (Washington, DC), Center for the Book Arts (New York), and Global Print International (Douro, Portugal). ). His work is in many public collections, including the Asheville Museum of Science, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Tucson Museum of Art. Flanders holds an MFA from Arizona State University and has taught printmaking for fourteen years at various national and international universities. Currently, she is a professor of studio art at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
