Aspen Meadows Handcrafted Soaps celebrates 20th anniversary – Canon City Daily Record

Aspen Meadows Handcrafted Soaps will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year.

Owners Sue and Jeff Stultz opened the shop in 2002 and, due to the nature of their unique, handcrafted products, has found success in the area. The wide array of handmade soaps, lotions, scented candles and more attracts people from across Fremont County, state and country.

Although an Arvada native, Sue Stultz took classes while living in California on the process of making handcrafted products and brought that expertise back to Colorado. Their store would continue to include food items, such as salad oils and meat rubs, in addition to the litany of toiletries and kitchen products.

“We’re doing something people want,” Sue Stultz said. “We have a strong local customer base, and we also have a website, we ship nationwide.”

Although it took a while to initially establish itself as a business in Cañon City, success was quick to come – and stay that way.

Sue Stultz attributes part of their success to their experience in business when they opened in 2002.

“I have a degree in finance, so having a business background I think helps a lot,” she said. “It helps you manage your costs.”

A golf professional for 13 years, Sue Stultz has also worked as an accountant in the industry and is still a PGA Certified Professional. Although they operate a successful business that ships nationwide, she knows that it’s the people back home who make their dream an ongoing reality.

“I love the people, I love the atmosphere, I love the community,” she said.

Unlike many other small businesses, the Stultzes and their business haven’t reeled from the shock of COVID-19. Due to their unique eclecticism and wide array of handmade products, people continued to flock to the store and support them throughout the first pandemic.

“It’s a great place to come and get gifts, usable gifts, that’s what people use us for. You can buy it again and again and again and people like it,” she said.

The couple plans to continue their success in Fremont County for the foreseeable future.
