Blake School and Milkweed editions present: RISING by Elizabeth Rush

Join Blake School and Milkweed Publishing in celebrating Pulitzer Prize finalist Elizabeth Rush, author of “Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore,” which the Chicago Tribune calls “the book on climate change and sea levels that was missing.” “. Journalist Tom Weber will join Rush on stage for a conversation about empathy, vulnerability, the impacts of climate change and Rush’s poetic approach to reporting. Visual artist and cultural organizer Shanai Matteson will open the program with a poem about water. A dedication will follow.

We are honored to partner with Climate Generation and the Minnesota Humanities Center for this event. See a climate art exhibit at the Martha Bennett Gallery and tabletop exhibits from our event partners beginning at 6:00 p.m. Auditorium doors open at 6:45 p.m.

Rush is Blake’s 2022 Philip Otis environmental author. The Philip Otis Environmental Authors program was established at Blake in 1996 by Margaret and Angus Wurtele in memory of Margaret’s son and former Blake student, Philip Otis. The program supports a biennial visit by a distinguished author whose work addresses environmental themes.

This event is free and everyone is welcome. You can also purchase a copy of Elizabeth Rush’s Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore at an event discount, $15, with registration. Books ordered through Eventbrite will be available for pick-up beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18.
