Brewers’ Brent Suter Hosts Children’s Book Reading and Book Signing for Racine’s Back-to-School Event

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) – There’s still time to brush up on a good book before the first day of school.

Several organizations organized a fun day in Racine to prepare and read the students.

Save the Children is in the midst of its 2nd annual ‘Summer is Better with Books’ bus tour. Friday’s stop at Racine was one of 24 planned stops this summer.

“Summer is a very precious time that they don’t waste on books, playing in the summer, so if they can just read wherever they can, that way their minds are fresh,” Chrissy said. Morgan from Save the Children.

The organization has partnered with SC Johnson and the Racine Unified School District to provide educational games and free school supplies to children in need.

“We want every child to be able to show up on the first day of school on September 1 ready to learn,” said Stacy Trapp, chief communications officer for Racine Unified. “We never want money or resources or things like that to keep our students from having a great school experience.”

The event had a special guest. Brewers pitcher Brent Suter ditched the mound for the microphone on Friday, doing a free reading and signing of his published children’s book, “The Binky Bandit.”
