The Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival will bring together over 80 children’s book authors and illustrators in October.

The Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival will be held Saturday, October 14 at Robert Bell Middle School in downtown Chappaqua from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission and parking will be free and books will be available for sale. Families will also have the chance to meet more than 80 authors and illustrators of children’s books and have their books signed. There will be arts and crafts activities and food from local restaurants and food trucks.

Among the 80 authors and illustrators of children’s books who will participate are: Bruce Degen, illustrator of the Magic school bus series; Ron Barrett, illustrator of Cloudy with a chance of meatballs; Victoria Kann, author and illustrator of Pinkalice; Gail Carson Levine, author of Ella, enchanted; and Rosemary Wells, author and illustrator of the Max and Ruby series.

“The Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival is a celebration of children, families, community and literacy,” said Dawn Greenberg, a Chappaqua resident and one of the event’s volunteer organizers, in A press release. “Our mission is to encourage, promote and celebrate the joy of reading, while fostering a love of books, stimulating the imagination and opening up new worlds to our children. The festival offers a sample of books for the whole family, from toddlers to teenagers.

The first festival will be dedicated to the memory of Jean Craighead George, author of Julie of the wolves and a former Chappaqua resident. “It is important for us to honor such a prolific and important Chappaqua writer for our first children’s book festival,” Greenburg said in the press release. “At the festival, we will be exhibiting several of his books, which express his love and concern for the environment and all living things.”

Robert Bell Middle School is located at 108 Allen Place, directly across from Chappaqua Station. For more information, visit ccbfestival.org.
