WASHINGTON — The Hickory Stick Bookstore will host Rachel Vail, award-winning author of more than 40 books for children and teens, at a signing of her latest picture book, “Sometimes I Grumpy,” at 3 p.m. on Saturday, 20 August at 2 Green Chemin Hill.
Katie Honors is really a nice girl. But there is a little secret that sometimes does not make her nice: her little brother, Chuck. Chuck is messy and gross and rude. Chuck sometimes secretly makes Katie wish she had a trampoline, a treehouse, or a giraffe instead of a sibling. But when all those emotions come to the surface, Katie can’t grumble about them anymore.
This story explores the key social and emotional skills children need to deal with complicated feelings. Rachel Vail taps into universal childhood experiences that are often left unexplored, and does so with sensitivity, humor and respect for the range of emotions children face today.
Ms Vail lives in Litchfield County and New York with her husband, their two sons and a turtle named Lightning. Her children’s books include “Piggy Bunny” and “Sometimes I’m a Bombaloo.” Her teen and tween novels include “Well, That Was Awkward,” “Unfriended,” her new book series, “A is For Elizabeth,” and the Justin Case trilogy.
This event is free and open to the public. Those unable to attend this event can reserve signed copies of Ms. Vail’s books by calling The Hickory Stick Bookshop at 860-868-0525.
