Roanoke Island Festival Park will host the College of The Albemarle (COA) art exhibit, “Creatures of Comfort,” in its traveling exhibit space this summer. This free exhibition is open to the public from Tuesday to Saturday until September 24, 2022 in the Ticket Sales Gallery.
“Creatures of Comfort” is a representative body of artwork showcasing each student’s individual work as well as a collaborative group installation. The exhibit was created by students in the Associate of Fine Arts program under the direction of Professor Christina Weisner of the COA Dare Campus.
As part of COA’s portfolio and CV class, each student was tasked with displaying their most comfortable artwork, art beyond the course curriculum with freedom of medium, concept and allotted time. “While these individual works focus on the artist’s ‘comfort zone’, the collaborative group installation, by contrast, challenges this notion – forcing one to come out of one’s place of comfort”, said a press release from the RIFP. . “The challenge of its comfort, coupled with its embrace, is harmonized in this exhibit.”
