The South African Performing Arts Championships recently took place and the students of Lillian Gray Art School made sure they put their best artistic foot forward.
Of the many visual arts students who entered the competition, 25 won gold, 14 silver and 22 bronze. During the competition, which takes place once a year, the students are judged in two rounds, according to the criteria of artistic technique, handling of the support, design and creative element as well as general impression.
The school’s Jemma Stander said the Fairland-based Lillian Gray Art School is an internationally acclaimed fine art school that was established in 2016. “We offer weekly art classes for all age groups. age, ranging from six-year-olds to 99-year-old adults. ”
Stander also shared how they encourage children to develop their artistic skills while helping them develop their creativity, imagination, social skills and confidence.
“We train them in clay, drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media. We also help our teens get a working understanding of art terminology and help them create their portfolio for grade 12 and college so they can pursue a career in art.
