Photographer Allyson Monson, known for her fine art photography evoking light, texture, color and movement, will make her fall High Point Furniture Market debut with a dedicated space in the Market Square suites. Showing her photographs at High Point is a natural next step for the photographer, whose career has placed her firmly in the world of interior design where she worked side-by-side with designers and became an integral part of the design process. design.
“Years of exhibiting at traditional art fairs has helped me develop a clientele of primarily interior designers, retailers and commercial showrooms,” said Monson, who holds a degree in textiles, merchandise and design from the University of Rhode Island. “I understand the design process and enjoy being part of it, advising my design partners throughout their journey with a client, my work being the final step in bringing a piece together.”
Monson prides herself on an extensive portfolio that has something for everyone and makes it easy for interior designers to specify her work. His website offers different ways to sort his portfolio, including a search by color. Monson also offers free mockups that allow interior designers to present their clients with a final design with photography included.
Growing up in suburban New York, the people, lights, sound and movement of the city have always fascinated Monson. While the rhythm and energy of metropolitan cities around the world remains one of her favorite subjects, her work also reflects her experiences with nature from the northeast to the west coast and the Caribbean. Monson’s photography is wide-ranging and varied and includes seascapes, abstracts, cityscapes and street art. Some images are crisp and clean while creating depth; others are complex, leaving the guesswork to the observer. The constant of his work is the evocation of light, texture, color and movement, connecting the past to the present.
Monson will debut on the High Point Market with five new selections from its portfolio:
Reality No. 2 – Photographed in Charleston, SC, Monson describes Reality No. 2 as her favorite piece to discuss. The picture features a sign on the side of a dilapidated building with the words ‘thanks but we already know’ written in graffiti underneath. While the graffiti was not visible to the naked eye when Monson took the photo, the words became clearer during the editing process, revealing a second message and changing the meaning of the piece.
“I consider my work as small moments. It’s a world of light and color, and when combined with various textures in a room, it comes to life in so many ways,” Monson said. “I photograph what moves me and makes me happy, and I hope that when someone sees my work, it will make them happy and remind them of their own moments, whether in the past, present or future. “
