Gannett to eliminate Saturday print editions for 9 Wisconsin newspapers

Gannett Co. on Thursday announced plans to eliminate Saturday print editions for many of its newspapers, including nine Wisconsin dailies.

The Saturday editions of the newspapers concerned will cease publication on March 12. The change will not affect Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Where the (Bottom of the lake) Journalist, which had ceased publication on the Saturday before.

The Saturday newspapers will remain available in electronic editions for the (Appleton) post crescent, Green Bay Press-Gazette(Manitowoc) Herald Times reporter, Northwest Oshkosh, The Sheboygan Press and Daily Herald of Wausau.

For three central Wisconsin newspapers — Marshfield News-Herald, Stevens Point Journal and (Wisconsin Rapids) Daily Tribune — the Saturday editions are abolished and replaced by the Sunday editions. From March 13, newspapers will no longer share Central Wisconsin Sunday and will resume publication of their individual Sunday editions.

According to the announcement, this decision is a response to “the rapid and continuous evolution towards the consumption of digital information”. As part of the change, Gannett is also making electronic editions of all of its USA TODAY Network publications across the country available to subscribers.
