John Patrick “Jack” Golden

Montville – John Patrick “Jack” Golden passed away peacefully in West Palm Beach on March 20, 2022. He shared 79 years of love and faith with his family. A Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Denville, NJ. Mass will be broadcast live for those who cannot be with us that morning.

Donations in his name may be made to the good work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Jack was born on September 7, 1942 to the late Lester and Gertrude (née Parks) Golden. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He got married and started his family. After his tour of duty, he returned to the United States, continued his education at Montclair State, and earned his BA in Commerce. He began his career at the Montclair State Book Store. After recognizing the need for students to acquire so many books, he branched out and opened his own store reselling used textbooks. He then spent several years at Barnes & Noble in Manhattan before opening his own bookstore – Broadway Books, in Denville, New Jersey. After retirement, John started his own business, JVG Books. He wholesaled books, books he had acquired, and he had a very active Internet presence. Jack thankfully retired completely in 2019.

Jack lived to the full and enjoyed every moment. He valued his faith, his family, his Irish roots and his dear friendships. He enjoyed spending the day on the golf course and having dinner with friends. In 1994 he was lucky enough to meet Vicki Kronfield and the rest is history! They got married and spent 28 great years together.

They loved heading south to Florida and were lucky enough to buy a house there a few years ago. Jack and Vicki loved to travel! They have traveled to Peru, Hawaii and Paris to name a few. These adventures were all amazing, but Jack particularly cherished his visit to Jerusalem and his visits to Chatham. MY. Of course, best of all was their annual trip to Germany to visit family. He loved those moments.

Jack liked nothing better than to be surrounded by his family. He loved to hear everything that was going on in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was very happy to be surrounded by his family and friends sharing lots of laughs.

While we are saddened by his passing, we are reassured to know that he embraces his beloved son Kevin Golden who predeceased him.

He leaves his beloved wife Vicki Golden; his dear children Dr. John M. Golden of Frankfurt, Germany and Susan Golden of Germany; his stepchildren Richard, Timothy and Angela Beerman; his grandchildren Natalie, Ethan, Reid and Kevin and many other dear relatives and friends. His brother Donald Golden previously died.
