Rebecca Tooby-Desmond, Sales Manager and Auctioneer, said, “What a fantastic way to start the year. Realizing over £5million and selling 99% by value and 97% by lot, the bidding was led by our first ever White Glove Editions evening sale. A tense auction room saw the return of bidders to the room as well as participants from over 55 countries around the world bidding by phone and online. These results demonstrate our continued strength in the modern and contemporary market and testify that the combined offering of these works continues to attract collectors worldwide. World auction records have been achieved for contemporary masters such as Banksy, David Hockney and Andy Warhol, and Warhol’s Queen Elizabeth II won the highest price of the auction and of the Queen’s Jubilee Year. We are delighted to have started 2022 on such a high. It’s going to be another phenomenal year for Phillips Editions, and we look forward to building on that momentum with our New York Modern & Contemporary Editions auctions on March 11.
