Practical lessons at the Book Arts Studio!

In this course, you will create your own typographic tarot or oracle card, while learning how to use the platen press to make small prints. We’ll talk about the basics of composition, as well as divinatory symbolism, and I’ll help you design a simple card to print yourself. Everyone will end up with a mini oracle deck containing each of the cards made in class!

Things to note:
• Creators of all levels are welcome. This course is suitable for children aged twelve and over.
All the tools and materials needed to participate are provided.
• Please read our ‘Plan your visit’ page to review our health and safety procedures.
Participants must sign a to renouncer upon arrival in class to participate in the Atelier Studio.

Jameson Hampton (they/he) is an artist and poet whose work is inspired by his interests in history, magic and alchemy. They were born and raised in the Buffalo area and earned a degree in digital art and computer science from Canisius College, which led them to a career as a software engineer, speaker and podcast producer.

Nonetheless, Jamey remains passionate about art, working in various mediums, but particularly typography. They completed a studio residency at Book Arts in early 2022, producing a hand-printed 28-card deck called Tarot of Spells. They have been doing typography for about two years and reading tarot for about six years.
