Devoshion, a boutique that opened last year at the Walt Whitman stores in South Huntington, is a combination of two words: devotion and fashion.
The store’s tagline, “Creators with Compassion”, reflects their philosophy of selling only artisan and locally made products that are plant-based, vegan, and cruelty-free. “You won’t see sheep’s wool or leather in any of my clothing or jewelry,” says co-owner Mor Schwartz. The devotion to earth-friendly inventory extends to candles, which are made from soy, not petroleum-based paraffin.
“We pay a lot of attention to how things are made,” says Schwartz. “A lot of them are recycled, recycled, reused, recovered.”
Impacted by the closure of craft fairs, Schwartz and co-owner Jason McKee, both artists, decided to open a boutique to help market the artisans’ products.
“The whole vision is to help other artists and we give local artisans, artists, artisans and makers a home,” says Schwartz, painter and jeweler.
For fashion, Devoshion offers hand-printed and tie-dyed shirts, sweatshirts and jackets, crochet and knit garments, shoes and bags.
There’s a wide array of jewelry, including silver pieces made by two female goldsmiths, pieces made from wine corks, hand-crocheted necklaces, and pearl earrings.
You’ll find lamps made from wine bottles, cutouts and mosaics of seashells and beach glass, images designed with vintage jewelry, unique stained glass, pebble art flowers, soaps and sundays. , the shop features live music.
“We’re trying to make it more than just a store,” says Schwartz. “It’s like a mini mall inside the mall, because each little display is like a different store for moms and dads.”
Prices start at $8 for mini signs and other small decorative items to $99 for high-end jewelry or an original painting.
Devoshion is located at 160 Walt Whitman Road in Huntington Station. The shop is open Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; 631-394-8296, devoshion.com.
