Sonic Origins release date revealed with some weird edits

SEGA has announced that Sonic Origins will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Steam, and Nintendo Switch on June 23. It looks like it will be a digital-only release at least at first.

The collection will include:

  • sonic the hedgehog
  • sonic the hedgehog 2
  • sonic cd
  • sonic the hedgehog 3
  • Sonic and Knuckles

You will be able to play the games in Classic Mode which will feature the games in its original resolution and limited number of lives, while Anniversary Mode will allow you to play the game in a new widescreen resolution with infinite lives.

There are also missions that allow you to collect coins to use in the game’s museum mode, which will allow you to unlock new content and special stages.

For a retro Sonic collection, some collections are downright weird. For example, the Start Dash Pack will give you access to 100 bonus coins and a mailbox background, while the Premium Fun Pack will give you access to challenging missions and character animations in the main menu, while that the Digital Deluxe edition will give you camera controls on the main. menu islands. None of the stuff is particularly fundamental to the experience, but it feels odd to lock them away behind additional edits.
