NEW HOPE, Pa. — The 93rd juried art exhibit at Phillips’ Mill, Bucks County’s historic art exhibit, is accepting submissions through August 31 via online registration at Smarter Entry.
Open to artists within a 25-mile radius of the historic mill, the Phillips’ Mill Community Association welcomes and encourages artists of all backgrounds, styles and interests to submit their work. This year’s exhibition will be held live at Le Moulin as well as online, with all works on sale at both venues.
The juried exhibition continues the legacy of William Lathrop, founder of the Phillips’ Mill Community Association who, along with artist friends such as Daniel Garber, Fern Coppedge and Edward Redfield, devoted himself to exhibiting the art of their time , just like today’s juried exhibition. is committed to showing the art of today.
The art exhibition committee has announced that the judging will again take place in person at the mill. It’s a long-standing tradition at Phillips’ Mill, interrupted for the past two years by the pandemic.
“Having the jurors on hand to view the submitted works in person, to see the work in a real light from all angles, to experience the texture, the brushwork, the color, is something special on this day of online jury”, said Mary Flamer, president of the artistic commission. “We are thrilled to be able to offer this again to our participating artists.”
Artists should note, however, that any registration must be made online before submitting their work for the jury at the Moulin on the reception days, September 9 and 10. The high-resolution images required for entry will facilitate the production of the show’s online component. .
A whole new panel of esteemed judges will host the show. The jurors for the framed painting and graphics category will be Lauren Whearty, Peter Van Dyck and Douglas Martenson. Sculptors Syd Carpenter and Margherita Hagan will be part of the jury for the sculpture and portfolio categories. Information and links to their websites can be found on the Phillips’ Mill website.
The Phillips’ Mill Art Committee is proud to invite a new panel of jurors each year, ensuring that each exhibit showcases a unique personality. The jurors are themselves accomplished artists, distinguished in their fields and diverse in their interests. Sometimes they are also curators, art historians or have a university education. They always work together to select from the hundreds of submissions received each year to produce a show representative of the creative spirit of our local community.
Details and instructions on how to submit to the exhibition can be found in the Artist Prospectus available at www.phillipsmill.org/prospectus. The one-time $35 entry fee covers submissions in all three categories. Members of the Phillips’ Mill Community Association receive a 50% discount. (Artists can join PMCA on the website before signing up to take advantage of the member discount.)
All artists who submit to the show, accepted or not, will receive an invitation to the opening night for patrons and artists, a wonderful gathering under the lights and a tent on the back lawn of the Moulin every September.
