Submit your digital art portfolio

WSU ONLY ACCEPTS DIGITAL WALLETS.

If you have applied for admission to the art major on your application form, applicants must pass a portfolio exam by the faculty of the art department.

Requirements and tips for the portfolio:

  1. All portfolios must include 15 works (please send web links for digital media included in your portfolio in the Image Inventory Sheet).
  2. Please submit artwork using industry standard infographic programs. The accepted file formats are in high resolution:
    • JPG (.jpg)
    • Adobe (.psd)
    • Adobe (.pdf)
    • Adobe Illustrator (.ai or .eps)
    • QuarkXPress (.qxd)
    • In design (.indd)
    • QuarkXPress (.qxd)
    • In design (.indd)
    • Powerpoint (.ppt)
    • Director
    • Sparkle
    • Html
  3. Please include an image inventory sheet including your contact details, title, medium or program (s) used, size, date of execution and a brief description of the part.
  4. All digital portfolios should be checked to ensure links are working properly and all necessary files are included. Instructions should be included if necessary for viewing digital portfolios in the coin section of the image inventory sheet.
  5. Do not include any artwork that is a direct copy of another artist’s work, design, ideas, or characters.
  6. Your portfolio can focus on a single medium or can show a variety of mediums.
  7. Demonstrate your knowledge of the principles and elements of art and design.
  8. Your portfolio can include both classroom homework and self-directed work.
  9. Include in your portfolio what sets you apart as an artist: materials you enjoy working with, topics you want to explore and show how you see the world?
  10. Ask for feedback from your teachers and classmates.
  11. Photograph your non-digital artwork for your portfolio.

Portfolio maturity dates:

  • Fall transfers, May 1 *
  • Spring transfers, December 1 *
  • First year students, March 1 *
    * Note: For late portfolio submissions, please contact the Chair of the Arts Department at dshapleigh@westfield.ma.edu
  • Visual arts education, Initial PreK-8 or 5-12, Post-baccalaureate Licensure Program, there is no set deadline, please submit when your portfolio is complete and ready for review

When the undergraduate admissions office or the College of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education office receives a notification that you have passed your portfolio exam, then you will either become an art major or be accepted into the program. post-baccalaureate in visual arts of the department. If you do not pass or complete the exam, your major will remain undeclared until you do so or until you are accepted into the post-baccalaureate visual arts program.
