The Public Arts Advisory Council needs members

The City of Daytona Beach is seeking qualified volunteers to serve on its new Public Arts Advisory Council.

The council will make recommendations to the city commission regarding the creation and implementation of policies to promote public art in the city.

Interested board members must live, work, or own property or business in Daytona Beach and at least four members must be a professional artist, architect, landscape architect, city planner, engineer, or have a background/ advanced education in the arts.

Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens

The Ormond Memorial Art Museum will host a free family art night from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 5, at 78 E. Granada Ave.

The monthly program usually takes place on the first Friday of each month to coordinate with the free, family-friendly movie shown outside in Rockefeller Gardens. “Ratatouille” will air on August 5.

No artistic experience required and all are welcome. All art supplies provided.

The museum offers exhibitions and courses.

“Stitched, Stamped & Sculpted, A Collection Of Florida Fiber Art” is on display through August 14.

Arts and Sciences Museum

The Museum of Arts and Sciences offers events and exhibits at 352 S. Nova Road, Daytona Beach.

Epiphany! Visions of Art, the annual Beaux Arts of Central Florida exhibition, opens August 6. The exhibition will be presented until November 27. This is the 60th anniversary of the Fine Arts Jubilee and the fifth year that MOAS has hosted this group’s annual exhibition. , composed of 50 professional artists.

An Afternoon with Florida History: Florida’s Famous Shipwrecks will meet from 3-4 p.m. on Saturday, August 13. Senior Curator of Education and History, Zach Zacharias, will speak about shipwrecks in the Root Family Auditorium. Free for members, with paid museum admission or $7 for non-members.

“Art as Alchemy,” an exhibit from the New World School of the Arts in Miami, will be on view through October 16. An intervention by artists from the school with five works from the museum’s permanent collection. Artists chose from the variety of cultures and media to create their own works and exhibit them alongside those of the museum in the gallery.

Tech Savvy: Home technology from the 1890s to the 1990s will be on display until December 4. The exhibit focuses on the staggering change in home technology over the past approximately 100 years.

The exhibition “Key West: Southernmost USA” is presented. Explore the southernmost point of the continental United States.

Child’s play: the historical toys and games from the collection will be on display until Sunday 28 August.

The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Daytona Beach Arts League

The next exhibition in the league will be a special invitation, “Men Painting Women”.

Five award-winning male artists will exhibit work in the gallery from July 30 through September 4 with a reception with the artists from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, August 20 at 433 S. Palmetto Ave. at Daytona Beach.

ArtHaus courses

ArtHaus offers several classes at 3840 Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange.

Summer art classes for children started on June 6. Classes start at $130 per week.

The Acrylic Painting Class for 18+ will meet from 1-3 p.m. on Saturdays. Classes are taught by professional artists Aaron Shelton and Savannah Zanosky. These are two-class sessions and supplies are included. Each class is $60 and includes a professionally hand-stretched canvas.

Theater Technical Training Class

Atlantic Center for the Arts

The Atlantic Arts Center has several upcoming activities.

Hub on Canal

The Hub on Canal offers workshops and classes at 132 Canal St., New Smyrna Beach.

First Saturday events include the opening of the August exhibition in The Founders Gallery is “The Embodied Experience”, Liz Carey’s Abstract Expressionism. Ms Carey said her pieces had a lot to say, being both big and powerful – and also soothing and peaceful. The opening reception will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. An artist talk will take place at 6 p.m. The exhibition will be on display until August 28.

Art Connections will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Get an inside look at the work of over 60 local artists. Talk to the artists and learn about the artistic creation process. Explore two floors of art in a historic building in the heart of New Smyrna Beach’s arts district.

Talk Art with Hub artist Steve Hardock will take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

All 1st Saturday events are free and open to the public.

Antiques & Art

Antiques & Art will be holding a Highwaymen Art Exhibit Sale from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, August 21 at 520 Andrews St., New Smyrna Beach.

Meet Highwaymen guest artist Al Black, one of the few remaining members and Florida Hall of Fame inductee. In addition to the Highwaymen painting, Floridian artist Jerry Chaput will showcase his work. There will be a signing of Cuban paintings and Cuban cookbooks by host Rapheal Periut.

DeLand Art Museum

The Museum of Art-DeLand will host an artist talk with Reynier Llanes from 5-6:30 p.m. at 600 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand.

The reception will take place from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The talks in the gallery will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The museum is hosting the exhibit “Clyde Butcher, Cuba: The Natural Beauty,” through Sept. 18 at 100 N. Woodland Blvd. Commissioned by the United Nations to create a portfolio of the mountainous lands of Cuba, Mr. Butcher undertook three week-long expeditions into unknown lands. Admission is free for members and $5 for non-members.

Gateway Center for the Arts

The Gateway Center for the Arts holds pottery classes for adults from noon to 2 p.m. every Wednesday at 880 NUS 17/92, DeBary.

Classes are intended for beginners and intermediate students. Each session is $50. Masks are mandatory and class sizes are limited.

The Comedy Chaser, comedians and improvised scenes, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 12. Tickets are $12 online or at the door.

Open Studio is at 10 a.m. every Tuesday.

Volunteers are needed. Volunteers will be able to participate in events and shows for free, while earning credits for future classes and shows.

The Singsations Youth Choir for ages 7-13 will have auditions and registration from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, August 27 and 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, August 31 at

Opening of the art exhibition with reception at the gallery

Galerie Elan will present its August exhibition, “Equus, Spirit of the Horse,” at 230 S. Beach St., Daytona Beach.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, August 5. Admission and parking are free.
