2K Games reveals the full list of pre-order editions for WWE 2K22 and confirms the release date for the upcoming pro wrestling sim on March 11.
The developers behind WWE 2K22 revealed the various bonuses players can receive by pre-ordering their latest pro wrestling simulator, which will be available in four different editions. 2K Games and Visual Concepts took a brief sabbatical from the Squared Circle after the disastrous launch and poor reception of WWE 2K20but now they’re ready to get back in the ring with a brand new installment they promise”hit differentof the above.
Over the past year, Visual Concepts has been slowly leaking details about the upcoming WWE 2K22, including its polished graphics and the return of several popular game modes like Create-A-Wrestler, Universe Mode and GM Mode. There will also be many new features, such as MyFaction stable building which will allow players to create their own power squad to crush the competition. More recently, 2K revealed the official cover art for WWE 2K22, which features beloved WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio. Some previously revealed pre-order bonuses include alternate character skins for The Undertaker, and it turns out Visual Concepts has a lot more to offer fans looking to get started. In a recent press release, 2K Games announced the feature set for WWE 2K22, confirming that the story-driven 2K Showcase mode will indeed be centered around Rey Mysterio and revealing the game’s March 11 release date. Additionally, 2K outlines all of the different pre-order bonuses, which will be available in four different packages. These include the Standard Edition, which includes the base game for PlayStation and Xbox consoles, the $79.99 Cross-Gen Bundle which will include the latest and current versions of the game as well as Starrcade ’96 Rey Mysterio Pack, and the $99.99 Deluxe Edition which includes the previously mentioned Undertaker Immortal Pack, a Season Pass for all five DLC content packs, and limited-edition WWE SuperCard content for physical copies. Finally, there’s the $119.99 nWo 4-Life Edition, which will only be available digitally and will include a huge assortment of content based on the infamous New World Order faction – including alternate costumes for Hollywood Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Syxx, Eric Bishoff as a playable character, WCW Souled Out 1997 and WCW Bash at the Beach 1996 arenas, and the nWo Wolfpac Championship.
2K Games and Visual Concepts encountered quite a few difficulties in developing WWE 2K22and not only because it is necessary to rebuild the goodwill with the players following the disappointment of WWE 2K20 and the lukewarm response to the arcade style WWE 2K Battlegrounds in 2020. A recent wave of layoffs, releases and contract terminations within WWE has put WWE 2K22 roster of playable characters in question, so much so that insiders claimed that WWE 2K22 will have one of the most obsolete WWE lists in history. A few of the wrestlers who have been released over the past year have suggested that Visual Concepts was originally going to base WWE 2K22 around the rookie-centric NXT division, but the recent wave of layoffs ultimately led to that plan being scrapped.
2K Games hopes that WWE 2K22 can make a comeback to the world of professional wrestling simulators, much like its cover star Rey Mysterio has done time and time again in the real-life wrestling arena. Whether WWE’s latest game can pull that off remains to be seen, but players certainly won’t be short of options for pre-order bonuses when WWE 2K22 enters the ring on March 11.
