As part of Queensland Older People’s Month, the Bundaberg Regional Galleries are looking forward to hosting a number of workshops in partnership with the Bundaberg Art Society, on the theme of The Art of Good Food.
The connection between food and art will be celebrated through the workshops, which are free to the community, and will also highlight the Social Connections theme of Seniors Month.
Throughout the month of October, people of all ages, cultures and abilities will come together and connect, celebrating the essential roles senior citizens play in our communities.
Thanks to a grant, the regional galleries of Bundaberg were able to run a series of workshops to encourage older people to come together and learn a new skill.
Each participant will choose their favorite recipe and bring a key ingredient from that recipe to use as a still life object.
As part of professional arts classes, participants will be guided through two-hour specialized workshops from 10 a.m. to noon.
A collective book of recipes and works of art will be produced at the end of the program for each of the participants.
The workshops will be organized by the Bundaberg Art Society, with one session per week during the month of October.
- October 5 – Watercolor pen and wash
- October 12 – Advanced Burning
- October 19 – Pastels and smudges
- October 26 – Graphite drawing
Spokesman for the Council’s arts, culture and events portfolio, Cr John Learmonth, said the workshops were a fantastic way for the community to enjoy both art and food.
“The Art of Good Food: Arts Workshops celebrates Seniors Month and invites seniors to come together for a culinary journey, sharing their delicious heritage, through food memories, family recipes, cooking and baking. history,” he said.
“Whether you practice art regularly or have never picked up a brush before, these sessions will give you the opportunity to learn many different artistic techniques while meeting new people.
“The book that will be compiled at the end of the sessions is a fantastic resource for the whole community, with people sharing their best family recipes.”
Sessions will be held at Bundaberg Art Society Inc, 95C Walker Street, Bundaberg West.
