Land Stone Art Festival in Bridlington

The Land Sand Stone Art Festival returns to the Yorkshire coast for the first time in three years this weekend.

The festival will take place over the weekend of Saturday 10th to Sunday 11th September, organized by Responsible Fishing UK in association with Visit East Yorkshire.

Artists from across the UK – and beyond – will come together for a unique celebration of the creative possibilities of nature and the beautiful coastline of East Yorkshire.

The theme for the first day – Saturday September 10 – will be sand and stones. Bridlington’s North Beach will be transformed with an Artist Showcase, walk-in workshops and the Family Beach Art Challenge.

Visitors will have the opportunity to join artists James Brunt, Julia Brooklyn, Sean Corcoran, James Craig Page, Jon Foreman, Mark Antony Haden Ford, Tim Pugh, Richard Shilling, Laurence Winram and many more for an art session in open stone.

Visitors will see artists creating new works and can get tips and tricks on creating temporary art in nature and creating their own art on the beach.

On Sunday 11 September the theme of the day will be the earth and the venue will move to Sewerby Hall and Gardens. Visitors can join artists in the gardens, for a range of activities including a forest art trail, pick n mix land art and workshops.

James Brunt of Responsible Fishing said:

“Land Sand Stone brings together some of Earth’s finest artists from the UK and Europe, for a unique festival celebrating the Bridlington Coast. Throughout the festival, artists will create beautiful works, lead demonstrations and workshops and temporarily transform the landscape as you know it.

“The organizers of Responsible Fishing UK have been overwhelmed by the response to the festival from the land art community and are delighted to welcome many artists to Bridlington from as far away as Portugal and the Netherlands.”

Councilor Jane Evison, portfolio holder for economic growth, investment and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, added:

“I am delighted that Visit East Yorkshire has been able to work with Responsible Fishing UK for what promises to be an amazing weekend around Bridlington and Sewerby Hall and Gardens.

“This festival is certainly unique and one of a kind in the UK. Bridlington is the home of earth, sand and stone art and we look forward to welcoming artists back to the East Riding.

“It really is something for the whole family and completely free to get involved with, so I encourage East Riding residents to support the festival over the weekend.”
