No Internet? No problem. Connect by visiting a Jefferson Library Wi-Fi hotspot | Entertainment/Life

Jefferson Parish Library’s Mobile Hotspot Borrowing Program is running, with 50 hotspot Wi-Fi devices available to patrons 18 and older with active library cards .

A mobile hotspot allows people to access the Internet, usually using Wi-Fi, through a wireless LAN with a router connected to an Internet service provider. Patrons can use library hotspots to browse the Internet, send and receive emails, and use services such as Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp, and others.

Mobile hotspots can be viewed for 21 days. If a device is not returned by its due date, service will be disconnected remotely. A fee of $15 per day will be charged to customer’s account for late returns. A $50 charge will apply if the item is lost or damaged beyond repair.

The hotspots are:

  • Secure, fast, and reliable: They work over cellular connections, making them ideal for almost any location.
  • Easy to use: charge them and turn them on. Customers can connect their devices to the signal.
  • Library Supported: The Library Help Desk is available to help patrons with questions or problems.

Devices are private and not monitored by the library. The library does not have access to a patron’s Internet usage data.
